It was all one-way until Tea yesterday with the visitors making the most of a placid surface. Dean Elgar led the charge making his second hundred in Tests. Things unravelled for South Africa in the final session though as the hosts hit back with 4 crucial strikes. At 268/5, it is even-stevens. History is on the side of South Africa though, only once has any team lost after making 250 or more in the first innings at Galle. Will the visitors push along or will SL peg them back further.

Suranga Lakmal gave Sri Lanka the early wicket they needed as he had night-watchman Dale Steyn out bowled with a perfect yorker. Steyn had only just crossed his 1000 Test runs mark, but he had no answer to Lakmal as he set him up with a number of short pitched deliveries before cleaning him up with a vicious yorker.
de Kock continued his fine form in international cricket as he notched up his maiden Test fifty with a gritty knock. He, however, could not convert that into a big one as Dilruwan Perera had him out caught at first slip soon after he had reached his landmark.
